SAMSUNG D900 REVIEW

Part of the new Ultra series from Samsung the D900 is the flagship model within this range, with slenderness being the key link between all three models. The combination of great style and high quality features is what Samsung are hoping will differentiate the D900 from its direct competitors in the 3MP camera phone range. With strong competition in the Sony Ericsson K800I and the Nokia N73 read on to see if the D900 has the credentials to be alongside imaging greats.

DESIGN

The Slimness of the D900 is the first thing that strikes you about the handset when initially viewed. It seems that Samsung have taken on the slim design concept first shown by Motorola in their V3 handset, after seeing the mass success of that particular model. Samsung claim that the D900 is the slimmest slider phone on the market at the time of its release and with dimensions of 103.5 x 51 x 12.9 mm it would be hard to disagree. The weight of the handset is also remarkable at 93 grams considering the wealth of features the D900 possess. The combination of a light and slim design equates to a handset which is both comfortable to hold and carry in a pocket or bag; but it should be noted that the width of the handset may be too wide for some hands.

Made predominantly of plastic the D900 displays an element of cheapness in its appearance, which was disappointing considering the range the handset is in. Possessing a fantastic design the use of better materials would have amplified the D900’s aesthetics dramatically, but instead it takes away from an otherwise beautifully shaped handset.

Samsung have incorporated silver trimming in a variety of different places on the D900, namely the speaker, navigation pad and buttons located on the spine; this in turn helps to break up the black colour scheme chosen for the design and adds some sophistication to the handset. The introduction of an anti-slide coating for improved grip on the back handset was a great move and definitely warranted its inclusion.
