The new WiFI equipped microSD card was announced at the Wireless Japan 2009 conference which took place from July 22 to 24 at Tokyo Big Sight. The card is a microSD card with built-in wireless LAN functions.

The new microSD card is developed by the KDDI Corporation. The card works like a normal memory card, however this model includes WiFi. The card measures 11 x 16 x 0.7 mm and when equipped with a mobile phone it enables a faster Internet connection.

According to Mobile Choice, KDDI unveiled two typed of the card, both manufactured by Mitsumi Electric Co Ltd and Renesas Technology Corp. Both types feature wireless LAN IC compliant with IEEE802.11 b/g, a transceiving antenna and passive components.

Unfortunately, there is no release date available for the new technology.
