Vodafone announces world’s cheapest phone at $15 Saveri | , 10:51 a.m. Feb. 18, 2010 2010-02-18

Even as the Mobile World Congress 2010 is gearing up for its closing ceremony, mobile phone operator Vodafone has launched two new entry level phones describing them as the "lowest-cost mobile phones on Earth". The Vodafone 150 announced at the MWC, Barcelona will be the cheapest amongst the two at $15 whilst its sister phone Vodafone 250 comes at a not-so-expensive price tag of $20. Both phones are targeted at developing countries and will initially be launched in India, Turkey and six other African countries including The Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Mozambique, Qatar, South Africa and Tanzania.

Vodafone 150 and Vodafone 250 will allow for voice and SMS services together with the support for mobile payment services.  Most of the specifications are common for both the phones, except for the Vodafone 250's screen that is in colour and larger than its counterpart. In addition, Vodafone 250 includes a FM Radio, missing in the 150 model.

The Vodafone 150 will retail unsubsidised at below $15 USD and the Vodafone 250 will retail unsubsidised at below $20 USD, depending on the local market.
