T-Mobile dismisses iPhone Rumors V.J. | , 10:21 a.m. July 16, 2009 2009-07-16

Rumors circulated over the web saying that T-Mobile is in serious talks to sell the iPhone in the UK. T-Mobile told mocoNews that any talk of a deal with Apple was ‘merely speculation’.

T-Mobile UK told the press that there are no serious talks with Apple to sell the iPhone in the UK. The comments come shortly after reports surfaced on the web claiming that the company was in talks to offer the iPhone in the UK within the next four to five months.

The deal would allow T-Mobile to sell the iPhone 3G model on its network, while O2 would retain sole rights to sell the iPhone 3GS in the UK. O2 is the only carrier authorized to support the iPhone.

T-Mobile has, however, exclusive rights to commercialize the iPhone in several different European countries. The practice of signing exclusive deals cam to the United States’ Department of Justice attention. The Justice Department has begun an investigation as to whether the deals are in violation of anti-trust regulations.
