Samsung Announces the i740 at an Amazing Price V.J. | , 7:28 p.m. July 26, 2008 2008-07-26

Samsung just loves to release new mobile phone. Was there a week without a new release recently? This new product set to join their cellular telephony portfolio was actually announced last week in Kiev.

The news Samsung i740 is not really a spectacular release, but it is more a decent phone with just basic, or mid-end, features. There is no 10 megapixel camera and no dual-SIM or anything similar. It is basically a good phone but without the extra-cool features. Actually what impresses is the price, but we’ll get there in a second.

Samsung i740 is a Windows Mobile 6.1 propelled mobile phone; it is a tri-band (900 / 1800 / 1900) touchscreen mobile phone. As said before it does not have a 10 megapixel camera, in fact it has just a modest 3 megapixel camera with flash. The display is 240 x 320 pixels. The multimedia features are not that great, it may be impossible to record videos using the phone.

The new Samsung also has GPS and an optical joystick for phone navigation with microSD card slot. The device comes with a FM radio, probably incorporated music player but what disappoints is the lack of 3G or WiFi connectivity. If you want to use it to check your email or simply browse web pages randomly, you’ll have eternity to wait. Well, these are pretty much the phone’s features.

Now, here’s the surprise. The phone will be available in Ukraine starting August for $1949 (yes, USD). Do you think the Ukrainians will give that much for a mobile phone that doesn’t even have 3G or WiFi connectivity? The price is definitely exaggerated. In any case, there is no information if the device will be released elsewhere.
