NTT Docomo will intro first GPS-linked info service V.J. | , 12:42 p.m. July 26, 2009 2009-07-26

According to reports, the Japan-based NTT Docomo Inc. will introduce in November the first information delivery service that links domestic cell phones to GPS.

The service uses GPS to automatically deliver information useful for work and daily life to each user’s handset based on present location. Available on new models to be introduced in November in Docomo’s winter campaign, the service is an expanded version of i-concier, an information service Docomo started last November for approximately 20 yen per month.

According to Yomiuri.co.jp, linking to GPS will allow Docomo to send additional information, such as the local eather forecast at a business trip destination and information on sales at nearby shops.
