The world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer has joined up with the Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired and Tampere University to create a software that will help blind people with the use of mobile phones.

The new software is called Nokia Braille Reader and it was designed to help blind and visually impaired mobile users read their SMS messages. The application uses Braille and tactile feedback for its functionality.

Currently, Nokia Braille Reader works on several Nokia handsets including Nokia N97, 5800 XpressMusic, N97 mini, 5530, 5230 and X6. In addition, the software is compatible with devices powered by S60 5th Edition.

You can download the software and view a video presentation here.
