Nokia begins file-sharing service with Ovi V.J. | , 1:03 a.m. July 8, 2008 2008-07-08

A new service was added to the Nokia’s Ovi portal. Dubbed Files, the service will offer subscription based cloud storage for transferring files between PCs and mobile phones.

The beta version of Files was added on Ovi. The service was made by Avevnu, a company Nokia bought at the beginning of this year. It allows a user’s PC running Windows Vista or XP to access a mobile browser. People are able to access anytime their files uploaded on Ovi even when their PCs are off.

Nokia says each subscription has a 10 GB limit of hosted content which is available for free. The registration may require your credit card in the future as the service will no longer be free.

The user can access content using his mobile phone after he installed Files and Ovi manager and connected to the service’s site. Every access is browser based, thus the service is not limited to specific Nokia devices. The problem is that, at least for now, the computer who runs the software must be running each time you try to use the service.
