Nokia Aeon to be announced next week? V.J. | , 5:54 p.m. March 24, 2009 2009-03-24

Numerous streams of rumors flow on the web regarding the Nokia Aeon concept phone. The latest rumor that we picked up is that it will be announced as soon as next weak. According to Dutch news reports, the handset is supposed to be available in the next months.

The Nokia Aeon is expected to come with an OLED touchscreen display, an impressive 12.1 megapixel camera, as well as GPS capabilities with HSDPA connectivity. The handset is rumored to be just 9 mm thick.

Anyway, adding a 12.1 megapixel camera is complete waste of material and energy. Ask any photography and camera experts and they will tell you that there is no point in making a camera of over 10 megapixel caliber. That is because the eye cannot see the difference. In fact, only a trained eye could make tell the difference between a picture shot with a 6 megapixel camera and one with 8 megapixel.

There has been a race for the highest megapixel camera on the mobile phone market; however that race should have ended with Sony Ericsson. Nokia’s 12.1 megapixel camera will, of course, take picture with the most impressive quality, but that exact quality could be presented to the human eye by a 10 megapixel camera.
