Next-generation iPhone may have a 5MP camera Saveri | , 11:29 a.m. Dec. 28, 2009 2009-12-28

If DigiTimes reports are to be believed then the next gen iPhone is on its way this summer. OmniVision Technologies has snatched a contract from Apple, to supply an order of 40 to 45 million 5-megapixel CIS in 2010.

Existing contract of OmniVision included a supply of 20 to 21 million 3.2-megapixel CIS to Apple that has almost doubled. The remodeled contract figures for its new device spell out Apple's confidence in big capital letters.

The American company is all set to announce its 5MP iPhone in late June at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) and release it a few months later.

While it is a 'wait and watch' situation, the upcoming iPhone's success is anybody's guess.
