New DROIDs to come at Verizon V.J. | , 5:31 p.m. May 30, 2010 2010-05-30

Two mobile handsets are rumored to become available on Verizon in the near future. Motorola’s co-Chief Executive Sanjay Jha has said that his company will introduce new handsets in Verizon’s DROID portfolio. His statements may confirm the Motorola Shadow and/or DROID 2 are indeed heading to the mobile phone operator.

During a conference, Sanjay Jha said: “We will introduce new Droid products in the Verizon franchise”. However, Jha did not mention any other details regarding the upcoming release.

There is a bit of confusion on the Internet regarding the two handsets, Motorola Shadow and DROID 2. Many users seem to confuse one with the other or say that Motorola Shadow is in fact Droid 2.

As far as we know, details on Motorola Shadow have been leaked and GSM Arena has published an image of the device. In fact, GSM Arena has a page with “unofficial preliminary specifications” on the Motorola Shadow.

They also say the phone is known as Motorola Google Nexus Two or Motorola MB810 as well. In consequence we could say that the Shadow and Droid2 are two completely different phones. According to Softpedia, the Motorola A955 may in fact be the Droid 2.

In any case, details on the Droid 2 are sketchy at best. The handset has recently received WiFi certification. On the other hand, speculative information on the Motorola Shadow is available, as mentioned above. Even if the specs are not accurate we can perhaps know what we can expect from the Shadow.

The Motorola Shadow presumably comes with a 4.1 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen boasting 256K colors and capable of offering 480 x 845 pixels resolution. It also comes with 8GB of internal memory, 512mb RAM and microSD support for up to 32GB. The handset comes with an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash, geo-tagging and face detection capabilities. At this point, offering more details may be superfluous, but you can check the list made available by GSM Arena.

There is no information regarding the availability of the two handsets, but Sanjay Jha’s statement may be seen as a confirmation that the Motorola Shadow and Droid 2 may become available at Verizon Wireless.
