Mobistar’s profits drop 11 percent V.J. | , 12:06 p.m. July 23, 2009 2009-07-23

According to reports, Belgian mobile phone operator Mobistar increased its customer base by approximately 4 percent year-on-year to the end of the first half of 2008 with 3.87 million customers.

Telecompaper informs that Mobistar postpaid customers rose by 9.6 percent over a one-year period and at the end of June 2009 passed 2 million. Additionally, Mobistar reported 116,866 active machine-to-machine SIMS in the half year, up by 25.1 percent.

EBITDA slipped 7.2 percent to EUR 278.4 million from EUR 300. Mobistar has recently posted a net profit of EUR 128.5 million for the first half of 2009, down 11.4 percent from EUR 145 million a year earlier. The loss has been blamed on lower EBITDA margin and an increase in the financial costs.
