EU anti-smoking campaign uses the Internet and mobile telecommunication V.J. | , 12:07 p.m. June 1, 2009 2009-06-01

The Eu’s Help 2.0 campaign targets young people and young adults in order to convince them to quit smoking or at least stay away from it. The general motto of the campaign is providing help and support “for a life without tobacco”. The campaign offers comprehensive information on health and social problems related to smoking.

The campaign, Help 2.0, uses television, the internet and new media such as mini-sites accessible through mobile phone. According to officials, the whole campaign is “web driven”. The objective of the campaign is to draw you people to the Help website where they can get all the information on the dangers of smoking as well as links to partner organizations such as the European Network of Quitlines.

The Help 2.0 campaign has a budget for 2009 of 16.84 million euros; provided that the evaluations demonstrate that the campaign is successful it will be renewed in 2010. The campaign was launched on World No Tabacco Day on the 31st of May.

I know I have to quit smoking and I’ll keep track of this campaign. If you want to quit as well, you should check their website and see if they can help. After all, we do need help.
