DoCoNo to introduce 4G in 2010 V.J. | , 9:14 a.m. July 13, 2009 2009-07-13

The Japan-based mobile phone carrier NTT DoCoMo will launch its next-generation 4G mobile phone network in 2010 even if rivals around the world wait, writes the Financial Times.

According to the same publication, DoCoMo will be among the fist companies in the world to deploy a large scale Long-Term Evolution standard. LTE will increase download speeds for mobile phones and make Japanese handsets become compatible with the rest of the world for the first time.

Leading company officials are confident the new technology will increase the number of subscribers and be capable of offering more interesting services. Ryuji Yamada said that "through LTE, we want to be known as 'Douga no DoCoMo'," a slogan that translates as "Movie DoCoMo".
