China Mobile starts own charity foundation V.J. | , 12:10 p.m. Oct. 26, 2009 2009-10-26

The world’s largest mobile phone carrier by subscribers, China Mobile, is giving over 100 million yuan for to start the China Mobile Charity Foundation. This is the first private foundation of a Chinese carrier.

According to reports, the first major project to have the Foundation’s participation is an education program in regions of central and western China. More than 35 million yuan will be dedicated to library building, acquirement of computers and in the training of school headmasters.

Zhang Chunjiang, vice president of China Mobile said that the Foundation is dedicated to charitable programs for disaster relief, education, environmental protection and helping disadvantaged regions and groups.

China Mobile has previously founded charitable campaigns in education and health. The State-owned mobile phone carrier has sponsored over 135 schools in 2008. In addition, the company aided the fight against HIV/AIDS.
