Apple fixed SMS security flaw V.J. | , 11:46 p.m. Aug. 1, 2009 2009-08-01

Apple said it has fixed the iPhone SMS vulnerability that enabled hackers to access people’s smartphones. Additionally, hackers could take over phones by sending crafted text messages.

The company says it has issued a software fix after the vulnerability was exposed at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas. According to an AP report, similar vulnerabilities have been found in phones running Android or Windows Mobile. Google has already resolved the Android problem and Microsoft is investigating the vulnerability reported in its software.

Apple says that iPhone users will receive a prompted message to download the fix when they plug their smartphones into their computers.
