It seems that LG is not the only one to benefit from China’s expanding mobile phone market. Alcatel has just signed two contracts with the country’s leading phone operators.

Alcatel-Lucent has signed two framework contracts worth USD 1.7 billion with China Mobile and China Telecom, to provide network upgrades, integration and maintenance services this year.

The contracts were secured through Alcatel-Lucent’s Chinese flagship company Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell. Under one contract valued at about USD 1 billion with China Mobile, Alcatel will provide its GSM/EDGE equipment, TD-SCDMA wireless networking equipment, optical, microwave and IP transmission offerings, IP service routers, application platforms and related services.

The contract with China Telecom, valued at about USD 700 million, the company will supply its 3G CDMA/EV-DO networking equipment, application platforms, optical and IP transmission platforms, IP server routers and network maintenance services to support the initiation of China Telecom’s 3G mobile network.
