It will only be restored if you copied the WhatsApp folder ony our old phone to your new S6. You can't make a backup from the server.

You can restore all the previous messages in your smartphone by again installing whatsapp app and providing the same number.

well, try running a windows based recovery software after connecting your memory device of phone with computer, this will recover mostly everything :D if it's not too late

Have you ever tried to use WhatsApp to restore your data? Cuz it actually supports to back up and recover data on WhatsApp.  However, you need to reinstall the app as to make a recovery. If it still fails, have a try on Android Data Recovery [recovery-android.com] on RecoveryAndroid. I did successfully get my lost  [recovery-android.com]WhatsApp messages back on Galaxy S7 [recovery-android.com] a few days ago. It realy helps. Hope it helps you either. GOOD LUCK!
